This dissertation focuses on contrastive study of syntax of English and Chinese with the purpose to explore the similarities and particularly dissimilarities between these two unrelated languages. It is hoped that through contrastive study, it will be easier for Chinese students to get a better command of English. What’s more important, the result of the contrastive study, which improves their competence and performance. A contrastive study of different languages not only helps to form a new method, which can be applied in language teaching and translation but also benefits the inter-lingual communication.
