Can a strong foundation in one’s mother tongue facilitate the learning of a second language?3. What factors determine the correlation between English proficiency and mother tongue proficiency?Methodology:This study will employ a quantitative research design. A survey will be used to collect data from a sample of high school students in a selected region. The survey will consist of questions related to the student’s English proficiency level, their mother tongue proficiency level, and their language learning preferences. The data collected will be analyzed using statistical analysis tools such as correlation and regression analysis.Expected Outcomes:It is expected that this study will find a positive correlation between English proficiency and mother tongue proficiency among high school students. Furthermore, it may be found that there is a positive correlation between a strong foundation in one’s mother tongue and the ability to learn a second language. Additionally, the study may reveal the factors that contribute to the correlation between English proficiency and mother tongue proficiency.Conclusion:This study has the potential to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between English proficiency and mother tongue proficiency among high school students. It may provide insights into the factors that affect one’s ability to learn a second language and the role of a strong foundation in one’s mother tongue. This understanding can therefore inform teaching practices and lead to more effective language learning outcomes.
