FeCl3 and PVP were used as precursors to prepare a catalyst containing iron oxide by the co-precipitation method. The catalyst was characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The effects of the amount of catalyst, reaction time, reaction temperature, and reactant ratio on the reduction reaction were studied. The results show that the iron oxide catalyst modified with PVP can efficiently catalyze the reduction of nitrobenzene. When the amount of catalyst is 1%, the conversion rate of nitrobenzene can reach 92.3% under the conditions of 5h reaction time, 50℃ reaction temperature, and reactant ratio of 1:3, and the enantioselectivity is up to 85.8%.Keywords: PVP modification, iron oxide catalyst, hydrazine hydrate, nitrobenzene, reduction reaction.
